Frequently Asked Questions
FAQS
Do I need to book an appointment?
Yes. I have a private, by-appointment-only studio located inside Vonzombie's Art Theory Studio in Mesa, Arizona. All laser
engraving services require an appointment or online quote request.
What materials do you work with?
I engrave and etch on a wide range of materials, including:
- Wood (birch, bamboo, walnut, etc.)
- Leather (veg-tan, faux, oil-treated)
- Acrylic (clear, mirrored, colored)
- Metals (stainless steel, anodized aluminum, brass, copper – marking only)
- Glass (flat or cylindrical – etching only)
- Fabric, canvas, and denim
- Stone, slate, rubber, and select plastics
Can I bring my own items for engraving?
Yes—but a signed waiver is required. I am happy to engrave on your own items, but because I can’t guarantee how unknown materials will react to laser treatment, you must sign a BYO liability waiver. I also offer photo documentation options if you'd like a visual record of your item's condition.
What’s the difference between engraving, etching, marking, and embossing?
- Engraving: Cuts into the surface to create depth and texture
- Etching: Surface-level removal, often used on glass, fabric, or coated materials
- Marking: Non-invasive contrast changes on metal or finished surfaces
- Embossing-Style: Simulated raised effects by carving away surrounding material—perfect for coins, wood signs, and dimensional designs
Can you engrave on curved or cylindrical objects like mugs or tumblers?
Yes. I offer rotary engraving for cylindrical items such as flasks, tumblers, mugs, and bottles. Some shape or coating
limitations may apply—please contact me first with a photo or description of
your item.
How much does it cost?
Our prices start at $20 for simple jobs and vary based on:
- Material type
- Size of the area being engraved
- Design complexity
- Whether we’re creating artwork for you
- Turnaround time (rush orders add 25%)

Can you help me design my artwork or logo?
Yes! We offer in-house illustration and design services. Whether you need a logo cleaned up, a sketch vectorized, or a custom piece of art drawn from scratch, I can help bring your vision to life. Design fees start at $35/hour.
Do you accept small batch or business orders?
Yes—with limits. I welcome small business clients and offer custom engraving for short-run batches (typically under 25 pieces). This is perfect for:
- Personalized staff gifts
- Boutique product lines
- Logo tags or small promo items
- Artist or maker collaborations
I am a one-artist studio, so while we
can handle thoughtful, limited-quantity orders, we’re not set up for mass
production or industrial-scale jobs. If you’re unsure, just reach out and I’ll
let you know what's possible.
What’s your turnaround time?
Most standard jobs are completed within 4 to 7 business days. Complex or large-volume projects may take longer. Rush orders (under 72 hours) are available for an additional fee.
Do you offer shipping or just local pickup?
At this time, we offer local pickup by appointment at my Mesa studio. Shipping is available on a case-by-case basis for certain non-fragile items. Please inquire during your quote request.
